I didn’t realize that there had even been a quake at all yesterday. Like everybody else I’ve been spending my Sunday with my family. The only quake that I experienced yesterday were the twins running about the shopping mall that were sending tremors to my peace of mind… 🙂
However I’m glad that nobody has gotten hurt yesterday. I can’t help thinking about how unstable the world has become in recent years. I pray that nothing serious would occur in the not-too-distant future. Certainly not in the next 2 years down the line!
Anyway here’s the report that I’ve extracted from MalaysiaKini…
The Ranau District Office in Sabah has not received any report of casualties, fatalities or damage to property following a mild earthquake that occurred 11km northeast of Ranau town early today.
Bernama reported district officer Faimin Kamin as saying the absence of damage could be attributed to its mildness as well as the fact that it occurred some distance away from the town.
The Meteorological Department said that a 2.6 magnitude quake occurred at 2.07am today 11km northeast of Ranau town.
Ranau district is situated at the foot of Mt Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia.
The department also said minor tremors could have been felt in and around Ranau town.
Later today, however, a stronger earthquake was reported to have occurred at the Ryukyu Islands of Japan.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 6.3, occurred at 2:10pm. Ryukyu is situated about 275 km from Taipei, Taiwan, and about 2,000 km from Kudat, Sabah.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the earthquake has not led to the issuance of a tsunami warning.
