…………

A very strong stand from Tan Sri Simon Sipaun. This is what many of us Sabahans feels but just a handful few of us voices out.

It takes courage to say the truth. I’m learning from this.

Malaysian church fire-bombed ahead of Muslim protests

KUALA LUMPUR — A church in Malaysia has been fire-bombed in an attack that gutted its ground floor, church officials said Friday, escalating a dispute over the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.

A fire department official said all stations were on alert for more blazes at religious buildings, ahead of planned nationwide protests Friday by Muslim groups angry over the use of the word as a translation for “God” by Christians. More

Kelantan 1977 Revisited: To Understand Selangor 2010

The target is Selangor, the jewel in Pakatan Rakyat’s crown. Najib wants back Selangor and he wants it back this month. So Umno has to do a ‘Kelantan December 1977’ revisited to get back Selangor in January 2010. Raja Petra Kamarudin, The Corridors of Power. More

———-

In my earlier posting regarding this topic, I said something about religion that can lead to bloody wars. A lot has happened since my last post. This evening the church bashing tally has now escalated to 7. This time even one of the Borneo States, Sarawak, wasn’t spared.

It seems that some group is trying to provoke the Christians into rioting to the streets. I mean wouldn’t the organizers feel a wee bit embarrassed that their scheduled January 8th demonstration ended up having only 500 people that actually turned up?

Basically these guys were going aggressive while the group that they were trying to aggravate remained calm and composed.

After reading RPK’s above article then I understand the whole scenario; all these things that are happening are merely smoke-screens. The taking of Selangor was the agenda. I believe that after the fall of Selangor then the whole controversy would be resolved swiftly and amicably, just in time for GE 13.

That was the plan anyway. However by looking at the current situation it seems destined to becoming a flop.

You see, the one thing about Christianity, we were brought up in following Jesus’ teachings. One of them is patience. If somebody slaps you on the right cheek, offer him your left cheek. This is the practice of non-violence that Gandhi himself advocated. The British left India due to Gandhi’s endurance in withstanding their persecution. The same goes to Christians in Ancient Rome who were being persecuted in the Roman colosseums where they get devoured by lions.

I was in Church today and the priest talked about the attacks on the churches. He told us that being human, he felt like lashing out against these perpetrators but refrained himself. He said if we reacted aggressively to these attacks, we won’t be following Jesus’ teaching. He was hurting and angry but he didn’t tell us to take to the streets. He instead encouraged us to be calm, brave and to have faith in God.

Now, I am quite pessimistic when it comes to religion mostly due to the internal politicking within the institution. Even though I’ve been going t0 church all these while were only to please my family members and mostly my wife.

Today is different. I suddenly have a profound respect for my religion that teaches and practices peaceful means of resolving difficult situations.

Suddenly I’m glad that I’m part of a religion that’s so cool.

I guess I still have much to learn in this world and my faith in my religion has now been renewed.

Before I log-off, I would like to share one of the main prayers of which I believe is the anchor prayer that defines us as Christians…

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

‘Allah’ Ruling Blues

5/1 – Home Ministry files application to stay execution of High Court ruling that the word ‘Allah’ can be used by Catholic magazine Herald./MKINI

5/1- “Tetapi dalam agama Kristian terdapat konsep “Trinity” yang mana terdapat “God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Ghost”. Jika dalam bahasa Melayu terdapat dalam kitab Injil atau syarahan berkenaan “Allah sebagai Bapak, Allah sebagai Anak dan Roh yang Suci”, maka tentulah ini akan ditentang oleh orang Islam. Dalam Islam Allah tidak ada bapak, tidak ada anak. Ia tidak dilahirkan dan Ia tidak melahirkan sesiapa. Allah hanya satu. Ia tidak boleh disekutu dengan sesiapa.” Tun Mahathir Mohamad – Kontroversi Kegunaan Kalimah ‘Allah’

5/1 -“The Sabah communities have always used Bahasa Melayu as it is the regional lingua franca and Christianity has been in Sabah since 1881..In the rites where English is used, the term is God while the rites in Bahasa Melayu is Allah and the one in the mother tongue, like Kadazandusun, is ‘Kinoingan’…Making Bahasa Melayu the national language and the medium of instruction in the education system have expanded the language’s influence among the Sabah communities…The generation born after this policy was made are more comfortable using Bahasa Melayu. They are also more comfortable attending religious service in the national language…” -Tan Sri Bernard Dompok – Dompok Says Widespread BM Usage Pushed Christian Use of ‘Allah’

“I think that althought we belong to an established religion, sometimes you have to take your spiritual path in your hand. I’m not talking about new age, new theory, thinking that you can put everything in a basket or choosing that we are going to create our own religion. I’m talking about the importance of being capable of distinguish between things that are really important to us and things that somehow maybe manipulated by our religion.” – Paulo Coelho – Religions

—————————————————————————————————————

I am not an expert when it comes to religion. Yes I am Roman Catholic and I do go to church on Sundays, whenever I can. I do this because this is the religion that I was born into and that’s all I know. I am sure that it is the same with being born in a Muslim family; that’s all they know.

Whenever I go to mass, whether it’s being conducted in Kadazan, Malay or English I normally started to drift away. Yes I know that it’s a bad habit. But that’s me; as long as I don’t hurt people physically and emotionally  or vice versa I’m okay. I just don’t like it when people start to impose their religious views upon me.

I’m glad that in this country we still have that respect for other religion though at the same time I won’t discount the subtle techniques being used to convert non-Muslims via our education systems.

This topic is indeed controversial. This topic also can bring about bloody wars.

Long ago it was easier to make a stand on religion and people would respect your differences thus maintaining your friendship with them.

Now you make a religious stand, people will go crazy and will try to kill you.

So I wouldn’t want to get caught wearing a Manchester United jersey alone in a pub filled with drunk Liverpool supporters…

Sept 16 is Malaysia Day – Malaysiakini Sms 19/10/09

19/10: From next year onwards, Hari Malaysia on Sept 16 will be made a national public holiday, says Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak./MKINI
——————————————————–
The Prime Minister is indeed serious in realising his ‘1Malaysia’ concept. By turning Sept 16 as an NATIONAL public holiday the government is recognising Sabah and Sarawak’s roles as partners to the Federation of Malaysia.

They’re indeed still others who bitches about the sincerity of the whole thing. When I sent out this sms this morning some replied back saying that its not relevant since Sabah was already celebrating on every Sept 16. (Of course some of them hadn’t read properly of was written)

August 31 will still be celebrated as Merdeka Day to mark independence from colonial rule.

I find that the government of the day is working overtime in convincing the rakyat that they’re the real deal. And they are winning.

Hmmm. Come to think of it this article was written a few days ago by Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok…

Ong Tee Keat resumes MCA presidency? – Malaysiakini sms 15/10/09

Just as I mentioned on my earlier post, if Ong Tee Keat continues on as president and defy the MCA members wishes; a party split will ensue.
