Malaysian church fire-bombed ahead of Muslim protests
KUALA LUMPUR — A church in Malaysia has been fire-bombed in an attack that gutted its ground floor, church officials said Friday, escalating a dispute over the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.
A fire department official said all stations were on alert for more blazes at religious buildings, ahead of planned nationwide protests Friday by Muslim groups angry over the use of the word as a translation for “God” by Christians. More

Kelantan 1977 Revisited: To Understand Selangor 2010
The target is Selangor, the jewel in Pakatan Rakyat’s crown. Najib wants back Selangor and he wants it back this month. So Umno has to do a ‘Kelantan December 1977’ revisited to get back Selangor in January 2010. Raja Petra Kamarudin, The Corridors of Power. More
In my earlier posting regarding this topic, I said something about religion that can lead to bloody wars. A lot has happened since my last post. This evening the church bashing tally has now escalated to 7. This time even one of the Borneo States, Sarawak, wasn’t spared.
It seems that some group is trying to provoke the Christians into rioting to the streets. I mean wouldn’t the organizers feel a wee bit embarrassed that their scheduled January 8th demonstration ended up having only 500 people that actually turned up?
Basically these guys were going aggressive while the group that they were trying to aggravate remained calm and composed.
After reading RPK’s above article then I understand the whole scenario; all these things that are happening are merely smoke-screens. The taking of Selangor was the agenda. I believe that after the fall of Selangor then the whole controversy would be resolved swiftly and amicably, just in time for GE 13.
That was the plan anyway. However by looking at the current situation it seems destined to becoming a flop.
You see, the one thing about Christianity, we were brought up in following Jesus’ teachings. One of them is patience. If somebody slaps you on the right cheek, offer him your left cheek. This is the practice of non-violence that Gandhi himself advocated. The British left India due to Gandhi’s endurance in withstanding their persecution. The same goes to Christians in Ancient Rome who were being persecuted in the Roman colosseums where they get devoured by lions.
I was in Church today and the priest talked about the attacks on the churches. He told us that being human, he felt like lashing out against these perpetrators but refrained himself. He said if we reacted aggressively to these attacks, we won’t be following Jesus’ teaching. He was hurting and angry but he didn’t tell us to take to the streets. He instead encouraged us to be calm, brave and to have faith in God.
Now, I am quite pessimistic when it comes to religion mostly due to the internal politicking within the institution. Even though I’ve been going t0 church all these while were only to please my family members and mostly my wife.
Today is different. I suddenly have a profound respect for my religion that teaches and practices peaceful means of resolving difficult situations.
Suddenly I’m glad that I’m part of a religion that’s so cool.
I guess I still have much to learn in this world and my faith in my religion has now been renewed.
Before I log-off, I would like to share one of the main prayers of which I believe is the anchor prayer that defines us as Christians…
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
